First published between 1858 and 1870, Froude's influential twelve-volume history of the English Reformation contends that Protestantism paved the way for modernity in England. Volume 10 includes Elizabeth's role as head of the church, affairs in Scotland and Ireland, and the St Bartholomew's Eve massacre in France.
