Old Regime and the Haitian Revolution

This is an innovative account of the French Caribbean colony of Saint-Domingue (Haiti) from the late seventeenth century to 1804, when Haitians became the first formerly enslaved people to overthrow a colonial slaveholding power. The result is a pathbreaking interpretation of the relationship between colonial slavery and the Haitian Revolution.
