Death of an Ocean

The rocks of the Borders record the Iapetus ocean closing, then the building and subsequent breakdown of huge mountains, and a history of deserts, rivers and forests that came as the land mass of which Scotland forms part went on a northerly migration. They tell also of the volcanoes indelibly recorded in the Borders hills.
