Challenging the distinctions made between archaic and later Greek culture, this study provides a model of cultural change in Greek antiquity. The author examines the nature of the Hellenic mentality in such texts as the "Iliad" and the "Odyssey", Plato's "Republic" and Aristotle's "Poetics".
