Miscellaneous Works of Edward Gibbon, Esquire 2 volume Set
On the death of Edward Gibbon (1737-94), his unpublished papers were left to his friend John Baker Holroyd, first earl of Sheffield, who published them in two volumes in 1796. Volume 1 contains a memoir, compiled from autobiographical manuscripts and letters. Volume 2 presents papers including an outline for a history of the world.
